A care package from my mom, pt 1: When I was a 15 I was a painter, and entered two pieces in a city-wide student art festival, and won Best in Show and First Place, respectively. The pieces traveled to DC and hung in the Capital Rotunda for a couple months. Later, too poor to afford art school, I switched to photography in order to support myself. These ribbons were retrieved from the rubble of my mom’s home after Katrina.

My friend Molly Crabapple is a disturbed individual. I took this photo of her when she had converted a luxury hotel suite into her own personal insane asylum. She has a show coming up called “Shell Game.” You need to see it.
