Best of The Daily Siege: 8/8/2005, A Year Under Siege:
“Love. Lust. Pictures.
So, our little perverted baby, The Daily Siege, has just turned one. Happy birthday to us! It’s been an eventful year, hasn’t it? I’ve made a habit here of speaking plainly and honestly about my life and work and love and lust. The upsides and the downsides. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
I’ve been lucky to share the highs with you, like getting engaged to my girl, and fulfilling a childhood promise to myself to buy my mom a house. There have also been some serious lows, both for me, and my friends. And you were here with us for it all.
Along the way we’ve discovered that I can fit eight girls (and a cake) in my shower at once. We’ve seen naked birthday sushi, white trash parties, Polaroid seductions, bathroom blowjobs, bite marks and slapped asses. We’ve seen lovers come and go, and new friends made. I’ve collaborated with people as diverse as a physics professor and a British generative artist, and I’ve shared the behind the scenes with you on my fashion and advertising shoots.
As I promised at the start, I’ve drawn no distinction between high and low, and I’ve posted everything from fisting to backseat trysts to still-lives of dead baby birds to an updated Declaration of Independence. I’ve used this as an artist’s sketchbook, a diary, a confessional, a gallery, and a soapbox. It’s all of those things and none.
It’s perhaps the weirdest blog on the net.
Most of all, what I’ve been trying to show here is a full-spectrum life. I’ve tried to show that you can be free-spirited with love and lust, yet still be a faithful and devoted person. That you can be both the sinner and the saint. That you can be a cultured animal. That moral libertines exist. I’ve tried to show that perverts are people too.
It’s been a huge experiment, this life less ordinary, and I want to thank Nerve for having the balls to give me the total freedom to see where this takes me, and you. Despite throwing buckets of cash at me, they’ve never once tried to edit me or tell me what to post (and I’ve posted some fucked-up shit.) There is no other publisher doing what Nerve does on a daily basis, and they deserve great respect for being who they are.
Who knows what’s in store for the future? Of course, our wedding is happening this year (along with a combined bachelor/ette party), and we’ll be traveling to New Orleans soon, and plans are in the works for photo assignments in Brazil, Greece, Costa Rica, and Thailand.
There have been many requests to publish an anthology book of The Daily Siege, as well as a DVD with behind-the-scenes, and my audio and film experiments.
So here’s your chance to talk back, about the future projects, about your interest in seeing a book or DVD, or just about the state of The Daily Siege and the past year’s life laid bare.
Today, as always, I’m listening.”
