As I posted during Katrina, Kid Koala’s amazing version of the New Orleans classic ‘Basin Street Blues’, made famous by native son Louis Armstrong. Haunting video directed by Monkmus. It hit me like a brick during those dark days when my family was missing.
I photographed Koala a year before Katrina, and wish I could go back in time and thank him even more for this. (purchase)
Basin Street runs along the back side of the French Quarter. At one time it was the main drag for the infamous Storyville red light district, which was bulldozed and replaced with the Iberville Housing Projects.
Voodoo queen Marie Laveau is buried in St. Louis Cemetery #1 on Basin Street.
